Summary

When her long lost cousin comes back to town just in time for the holidays, Lila Macapagal knows that big trouble can't be far behind in this new mystery by Mia P。 Manansala, author of Arsenic and Adobo

It's Christmastime in Shady Palms, but things are far from jolly for Lila Macapagal。 Sure, her new business, The Brew-ha Cafe, is looking to turn a profit in its first year。 And yes, she's taken the first step in a new romance with her good friend, Jae Park。 But her cousin Ronnie is back in town after ghosting the family fifteen years ago, claiming that his recent purchase of a local winery shows that he's back on his feet and ready to give back to the Shady Palms community。 Tita Rosie is thrilled with the return of her prodigal son, but Lila knows that wherever Ronnie goes, trouble follows。

She's soon proven right when Ronnie is accused of murder, and secrets and rumors surrounding her shady cousin and those involved with the winery start piling up。 Now Lila has to put away years of resentment and distrust to prove her cousin's innocence。 He may be a jerk, but he's still family。 And there's no way her flesh and blood could actually be a murderer。。。right?

I love this series。 The characters are believable and relatable。 Also, the descriptions of Filipino food are mouth-watering。 There are recipes in the back of the book if you're inclined to cook。I was happy to read in the acknowledgements that there may be more titles in this series。 (This is the Third)。 Lots of fun and recommended for anyone who likes a cozier mystery and enjoys reading about different cultures。 I love this series。 The characters are believable and relatable。 Also, the descriptions of Filipino food are mouth-watering。 There are recipes in the back of the book if you're inclined to cook。I was happy to read in the acknowledgements that there may be more titles in this series。 (This is the Third)。 Lots of fun and recommended for anyone who likes a cozier mystery and enjoys reading about different cultures。 。。。more

Words cannot describe how excited I've been for the next novel in Tita Rosie's Kitchen Mystery。 This has quickly become my favorite cozy mystery, and if you haven't given it a shot, please reconsider。 It's amazing。tBlackmail and Bibingka bring us back to Shady Palms – an area full of local cuisine, colorful characters, and a couple of murder cases。 Like many a cozy mystery, Lila Macapagal always finds herself in the middle of these investigations。 Mostly because she can't leave well enough alone; it's an oddly endearing trait!tI love that this story takes place during Christmastime (though I almost wish I had been patient enough to line up the holidays)。 It added even more charm and whimsy to an already abundant setting。Speaking of the setting, I think I enjoyed the setup more for this particular novel。 More than the beauty contest, at any rate。 This time, we're focused on establishing a new winery, which is fascinating on all fronts。 It also fits in nicely with the food-oriented themes。tThe mystery was enjoyable; the stakes were high (but not so high as to induce anxiety), and the characters were on point。 Oh, and of course - Blackmail and Bibingka made me crave Filipino food like you wouldn't believe。 So plan for that。tAs always, I'm charmed by Mia P。 Manansala's writing and cannot wait for the next addition to this series。 Hopefully, we won't have to wait more than a year or two。Quirky Cat's Fat Stacks | Quirky Cat's Comics | The Book Review Crew | Monkeys Fighting Robots | Storygraph | Bookhype | Bookstagram | Twitter | Tumblr | Reedsy 。。。more

I’ve been so busy and way too tired to read as much as I want to。 But I am still going to make the best effort to complete my goal。 That aside, this was a really good one。 I didn’t expect the outcome to be what it was, so that was a great surprise。 I hope to see more from Tita Rosie’s kitchen。

**3。5 stars** I am eagerly waiting this book and while it is not the best, it is good enough to keep me entertained。 This is lighter than the second novel, but still entertaining。 Coming from a Filipino family, I relate *HARD* on close-knit relationships, gossipy aunts, food as entertainment set-up。 I love this series and will continue looking forward to the next installments。

I still love the food descriptions but other than that, the writing isn't that great。 I find it interesting that in most cozy mysteries, the "heroine" doesn't actually *solve* anything。 They just kind of stumble onto the killer who confesses before trying to attack again。 It gets old after awhile。 I probably won't be reading the next one。 I still love the food descriptions but other than that, the writing isn't that great。 I find it interesting that in most cozy mysteries, the "heroine" doesn't actually *solve* anything。 They just kind of stumble onto the killer who confesses before trying to attack again。 It gets old after awhile。 I probably won't be reading the next one。 。。。more

My favorite one in the series is still number 2。 I feel like this series follows a very distinct pattern, and while I’m not upset about it (the familiar is very comforting), I do wish that the author would change it up, if only slightly。 I read it in a day (yay for being 250 pages!)。 It was fun, light hearted, and a palette cleanser。 Although God, Ronnie fucking sucks。 Like, sir, become more self aware and go to therapy for your trauma。 See you, book #4

DNF。 Cozy mysteries aren’t for me, I made it about 1/4 through and just couldn’t do it anymore。 I read the first in the series and liked it but this is just like reading the same book over again

I wanted to love this。 I did not。 I’m not ruling out reading the next book in this series, but I’m not saying I’m going to either。 I’m not going to put it on my ‘to be read’, but if I stumble across it, I may give it a shot。 Dialogue, plot, character development- all feel flat。 I did enjoy the recipes, so there’s that。

I like this better than Homicide and Halo-Halo, though Arsenic and Adobo’s still the best in the series。 I should probably buy a copy of this book to get the salabat snickerdoodle squares recipe, though。 As far as the mystery goes, a little more convoluted, and for once in this series, I didn’t suspect the culprit。 Either that or I found myself spacing out for the first time。Also, as much as I like Danice Cabanela’s narration, she mispronounces “tuyo” here。 😐 The accent goes in the last syllable I like this better than Homicide and Halo-Halo, though Arsenic and Adobo’s still the best in the series。 I should probably buy a copy of this book to get the salabat snickerdoodle squares recipe, though。 As far as the mystery goes, a little more convoluted, and for once in this series, I didn’t suspect the culprit。 Either that or I found myself spacing out for the first time。Also, as much as I like Danice Cabanela’s narration, she mispronounces “tuyo” here。 😐 The accent goes in the last syllable。 。。。more
